Saint John was one of the disciples and founders of the early church who fled to Patmos and Ephesus to escape persecution by the Romans. The window, set in a beautiful pattern of overlapping circles and rounded cross-shaped windows, illustrates scenes from his life.
The window was donated by the Armourers' Guild, shown in the bottom round window making a shield and stirrups. John is seen escaping from the Romans in a boat to Patmos in the left-hand side of the second window, and on the right, he is writing the Book of Revelations. The remaining windows tell the stories of John's miracles and his ascension to heaven.
